First Principles
Philosophy is commonly considered the class of ideas
that have nothing to do with reality. It's what's
too often taught by professors in ivory towers
who have never been held accountable to reality.
Valid philosophy provides practical and universal principles
that serve truck drivers, construction workers and the rest
of us in every decision in every minute of our lives.
Consider these principles and how they serve you...
- Reality wins in the end
so get there sooner.
- Pretending to know what you don't know
gets in the way of learning...
and you can't get caught trying to learn it.
- The world runs on trust.
How do you get and maintain trust?
Go back and read he first two.
It's all about honesty about what's out there and
what in here (pointing to your head).
Agile done right consists of:
- poking at reality to discover what is,
- discovering what's of value by trial and error,
- with continuous questioning and learning,
- building and delivering that value on rapid cycles
- yielding trust,
- repeat.
That's the essence of what I teach and coach.
Watch your thoughts...
Watch your thoughts, they become words
Watch your words, they become actions
Watch your actions, they become habits
Watch your habits, they become character
Watch your character, it becomes your destiny
